I work in personal development now because it is something I have always been interested in so I can really get behind the idea. For as long as I can remember, let’s say forever, I have been developing myself. I wouldn’t be where I am today without constant upgrading. I read all the books I could get my hands on, listened to the audible versions when I couldn’t get the hard copy, went to seminars… Personal development or rather personal growth is, truly, what made me.
I was never satisfied with just being one thing or what others were expecting of me. I always found myself wanting more out of life and I firmly believe that focusing on yourself is the way to go. Developing skills out of mild interests, I learned to play the guitar for example, I liked flowers so I opened a floristry shop and turned it into a flourishing business because I kept on developing myself and finding out more things I could do and was good at.
If you search for the definition of personal development on Wikipedia you will find a lot of things: it “covers activities that improve awareness and identity, develop talents and potential, enhance the quality of life and contribute to the realization of dreams and aspirations” Now tell me there’s nothing in that sentence you want for yourself? As for me, I want it all. Improve how I and others perceive me, develop all my potential, achieve my dreams and goals and have a better quality of life.
My personal development journey has taken me places I wouldn’t have dared to dream. Never would I have thought I would help others on their own journey when I started mine. My goals have changed as I developed into the person I am today and I am looking forward to seeing where it’s going to take me next. I think we all want a better life, for ourselves or for our kids and it’s a simple start. Changing a few things in your daily life, embracing a new mindset, setting clearer and achievable goals. You gain confidence in yourself as you realise how far you’ve come. And the best part of all: it is an enjoyable journey as you’re the one in charge. You might make more progress by challenging yourself but you do not have to start with the scarier things. So go on, bountiful thinkers, do it, I dare you to try.
